I haven’t written a post for AGES! The reason is not because there’s nothing going on to write about, quite the opposite – but I just keep thinking, before i can write about ‘that’ I should really write about ‘this’, but ‘this’ isn’t ready until ‘that’…blah blah blah. There’s a lot of stuff ‘in the making’ at the moment like new songs, photos, video blogs…it will all be up online soon.
Anyway…I thought it was high time you met our band members…
I must say that these guys are a selection of some of my favourite people in the world – they are so talented and they completely blow me away most days, no – most minutes that I work with them!
Sera – ME! - (Vocals) – to sum myself up I’d say I’m a little OCD about ‘getting things done’ (I’ve decided after much battling with myself that its a good thing), very whimsical and a little impatient. Music does things to me that I cannot describe (but its good things). I have a habit of loving everything and everyone, and I’m a bit of a hippy – but not a hippy that would happily go off and live in the woods for the rest of her life. I am super passionate about growing and moving forward and achieving things. I am also very much into inspiring people, empowerment and doing as much as I can to help charities/people in need. Musically my influences are very strange – I have one parent who is into anything non-commercial and non-pop, and one parent who loves stuff like Wham and Sclub 7 – which results in me, who loves…everything
I’d say vocally, I can either be all cutesy and soft, or big and belty – depending on what mood I am in and what the song makes me feel. I have many influences but to name a few: Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, No Doubt, Tori Amos…
Frankie Young - (Vocals/Piano) – Frankie is our newest band member, and she doesn’t feature (at the moment) on the first three songs that we’ve put online – she will do soon! We’ve known Frankie for years (she has her own solo career and writes some AMAZING tunes!), and whilst we were planning on being a 4piece band, she suddenly popped into our heads as the PERFECT 5th member. Not only does she play piano amazingly, but she is also one of the best vocalists I have ever heard. So, we now have two lead vocalists (like many of the best bands in the world – The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Oasis). As a person, aside from being uber talented, I’d say Frankie is quiet, but also hilariously funny and a great person to be around. Her sound is very individual and both her voice and piano playing are full of soul. Musically she brings a more soulful/funky edge to the band – think Stevie Wonder/Joss Stone/Angie Stone.
Allan Salmon – (Guitar/Vocals) – Allan is just an amazing guitarist. He’s pretty unique in his playing – he’s probably the only guitarist I know who hates guitar solos, preferring to focus more on rhythmical playing – but I don’t mean just boring ‘playing along’ type rhythm – i mean ‘Allan-style’ rhythm. Its hard to explain but you’ll see… when it plays, it feels goooood! As a person, Al is pretty laid back, the kinda guy who gets on with everyone and I always say he’s a bit of a hippy stuck in a non-hippys body/mind…hehe. Like when I look at him I can just imagine him travelling the world, meeting great people, being very free and happy. Musically Allan also seems to have a really diverse music taste, and he brings a really fresh feel to the band – very rhythmical, laid back and tasteful.
Bobby Chocolate - (Bass) – We LOVE working with Bobby. I personally love how he’s such a solid bass player – you can always rely on him to hold it down – yet he’s also really creative and since we’ve been writing together I am constantly blown away by the things he comes out with. I’d say some of his little ‘bobby-isms’ in his playing are a little cheeky, yet they fit perfectly with the music and bring something really special to each song. As a person Bobby is somewhat amusing (OK he’s hilarious – I just didn’t want to boost the ego haha), intelligent and just an all round wicked guy! Musically he brings a solid feel to the band and perhaps a few of his 80′s influences
Wayne Riches – (drums) – Wayne is just an awesome drummer and one of my favourite people ever! He makes every song feel great and has a real ‘Wayne’ style of playing – I swear I could recognise it anywhere on any song. Wayne has toured the world as a session drummer and has played with everyone and anyone, so he comes with a level of experience that is hard to match. That, combined with his very laid back attitude means he brings a real sense of calm – there are no nerves when Wayne is around and thats a great element to bring to the band. Musically Wayne grew up on soul/motown/hip hop etc, but also loves rock (Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters etc) so again quite a diverse music taste that gives him a really individual style.
So, thats us! Its lovely writing that because its made me really home in on each person and what they bring to the table…its such a great combination of styles and personalities. Here’s to whatever is next
